    The two biggest unions that represent actors are currently fighting. The conflict concerns who should handle the contracts for theater productions that are recorded for streaming. Actors’ Equity Association has accused SAG-AFTRA of taking theater productions that it would normally cover with its contracts.

  4. BACKSTAGE: BROADWAY THEATERS TO REMAIN CLOSED THROUGH AT LEAST MAY 2021

    Broadway theaters will remain closed through May 30, 2021 and possibly beyond, the Broadway League announced Oct. 9. The news, an inevitability that does not make it sting less, adds four months to the previously announced January reopening aim. All Broadway shows have been suspended since March of this year.

    Walt Disney World in Orlando announced Aug. 12 that it will be providing an on-site COVID testing center for employees and their families. This announcement came after more than a month of back-and-forth between the mouse and Actors’ Equity Association, which had called for Disney to provide its employees with COVID testing, in order to ensure the safety of Equity members who work in the park. Disney World initially reacted to that request by not re-hiring the 750 union members it normally employs.
