The Diversity & Inclusion Department invites you to attend “Claiming Our Power: AAPI Agency, Representation and Justice in the Workplace,” a webinar addressing the urgent issues facing people of the AAPI diaspora in the workplace and in society. This event will be held over Zoom (for Equity members) and live streamed publicly via Facebook on Monday, May 24 at 3 p.m. ET/12 p.m. PT.
Amid the rise in anti-Asian hate and violence in the U.S. during the coronavirus pandemic, how can theatre artists of AAPI descent keep themselves safe in the world and how can allies be supportive as we begin the return to work?
The first hour will feature a training on facing AAPI race-based harassment led by Impact Bay Area, including adrenaline management skills to regulate our own emotions, de-escalation strategies, verbal boundary setting and best practices for bystander intervention when witnessing harassment or other unsafe situations.
The training will be followed by a panel of AAPI leaders who will provide historical context to anti-AAPI bias; how this bias fosters invisibility or misrepresentation in media and can ultimately lead to violence; and how we can heal ourselves and our communities.
The panel, moderated by Diversity & Inclusion Coordinator Ariel Estrada, will include:
Attendees will leave the webinar with more powerful options to ensure their safety both in the workplace and in the world.
