Actors’ Equity Association (“AEA” or Equity) has announced that Pete DeMay will be the union’s new central regional director/assistant executive director effective immediately.
“Pete has extensive union leadership experience and has successfully led organizing campaigns in challenging environments,” said Executive Director Mary McColl. “Pete’s invaluable member mobilization skills will help move the central region forward.”
As central regional director, DeMay will oversee the union’s operations in 16-states, including collective bargaining, contract administration and staff management and development. In his capacity as assistant executive director, DeMay will be part of the executive team, working alongside three other assistant executive directors and the executive director to implement and support the union’s long term strategic plan.
DeMay has nearly 20 years of experience in the labor movement that includes work at UNITE HERE, the National Treasury Employees Union and the United Auto Workers. As an organizer, he has led campaigns that resulted in more union jobs, from Illinois to Puerto Rico. He has also negotiated and overseen the enforcement of union contracts.
“This is an exciting opportunity to represent Actors’ Equity Association’s central region,” said DeMay. “I look forward to putting all of my labor movement experience to work for Equity’s incredibly talented and dedicated members all across the country.”
DeMay joins Actors’ Equity Association directly from Chicago-based Elevate Energy, where he served as regional lead organizer. Prior to that DeMay ran for Chicago City Council.
