ACTORS’ EQUITY ASSOCIATION TO RESUME ISSUING GUEST ARTIST AND SPECIAL APPEARANCE CONTRACTS

New York -- Actors’ Equity Association, the national union representing more than 51,000 professional actors and stage managers in live theatre, will resume processing requests for Guest Artist and Special Appearance contracts on July 7, 2021. These agreements enable non-professional theatre companies to hire Equity stage managers and actors on union contracts and will be subject to Equity’s safety protocols. Producers who wish to employ Equity members using these agreements should contact the Equity office in their region for more information.

Additionally, the national council of Actors’ Equity Association last week voted to begin processing non-contracted in-person work requests (such as independent theatre productions utilizing Equity’s showcase code) on August 4 for fully vaccinated companies under the current safety protocols.

These announcements come on the heels of announcements of three sets of safety protocols in recent weeks, for LORT theatres, touring productions and single venue, fully vaccinated companies. Each step brings us closer to the full reopening of theatre.

ACTORS' EQUITY ASSOCIATION, founded in 1913, is the U.S. labor union that represents more than 51,000 professional actors and stage managers. Equity endeavors to advance the careers of its members by negotiating wages, improving working conditions and providing a wide range of benefits (health and pension included).
