In a move to expand its outreach and services to members of the theatre community, the Actors’ Equity Foundation, a philanthropic and humanitarian nonprofit organization, has hired Joan Glazer as its managing director.
“Joan has the background and experience necessary to fill this important new position,” said Foundation President Arne Gundersen, “and we are delighted that she shares our vision for the future of the Foundation.”
Glazer comes to her new position with over 20 years’ experience working with nonprofit companies. For the past five years she served as assistant comptroller at Actors’ Equity Association. Before Equity, she was the director of finance and administration at the Trinity Repertory Company in Providence, RI.
The Actors’ Equity Foundation was created in 1962 to aid and assist the members of the acting profession and to promote the theatre arts. It is separate from Actors’ Equity Association and is funded by estate bequests and individual donations. From its inception, the Foundation was guided by Equity Councilor Emeritus Carl Harms, who served as president for 43 years until his death in 2005; Gundersen has been president since 2005.
Glazer is excited about joining the Foundation. As she expressed it: “The Foundation has been an important part of the artistic community for many years. It is my mission to build on this and help the Foundation achieve the next level of service and value.”
