I was sitting on the floor of my New York City apartment, about to quit acting – again – when the phone rang. Jim Simpson was calling to offer me a part in his production of Howard Fast’s Citizen Tom Paine. We opened in Philadelphia and then went to Washington D.C. to the Kennedy Center. Richard Thomas played Tom Paine. It was fantastic and it got me my Equity card.
