San Francisco Bay Area Fall General Membership Meeting & EMC Event

The San Francisco Bay Area Fall EMC Event &  General Membership Meeting was held October 28th in the new rehearsal hall of Theatreworks in Redwood City, CA.

San Francisco Bay Area Liaison Committee  (SFBALC) member Brian Herndon coordinated efforts with Theatreworks Associate Artistic Director Leslie Martinson, to make this the first ever meeting reaching out specifically to South Bay Equity members and EMC’s.  Attendance was well above expectations for the first such effort.

SFBALC Chair/Western Councilor Kelly Ground and Councilor Stephen Pawley began the evening by hosting the EMC Educational session after which all EMC’s were invited to meet AEA Members at the pre-meeting mixer. During the mixer Ms. Martensen  graciously hosted tours of the new Theatreworks facilities for all takers.

EMC’s were also invited to stay for the first portion of the membership meeting which featured a presentation from Actors Fund representative Karen Lipney on Covered California (The California Exchange) and the Affordable Care Act.  California members not currently covered by Equity League Health plans or with expiring coverage learned more about a number of new, inexpensive and subsidized options. Ms. Lipney answered many of the member’s questions and provided invaluable information to assist members wading through this process.

The remaining membership meeting was facilitated by the Chair, Kelly Ground and Vice Chair, Aaron Wilton including an Overview/Primer on the Members Project Code (MPC) and the process Members can take to utilize it to showcase their work in the Bay Area. Michael Shipley shared his experience  with the membership of being the first Bay Area AEA member to utilize the new MPC. AEA Member Taylor Brock mounted, Edward Albee’s "The Goat, or Who is Sylvia?" and Michael directed.  As the code is administered by the Liaison Committee (not AEA staff), Bay Area members are encouraged to contact the Liaison (Kelly Ground) for more information about the MPC and how to utilize it.

Last but certainly not the least, the Bay Area Members continued their Bi-Annual Food Drive organized by SFBALC Outreach Sub-committee member Megan Killian Uttam, carrying on the tradition set by former SFBALC member Phoebe Moyer. Being in the South Bay the donations of non perishable food will go to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara and San Mateo (South Bay) counties.

The Spring General Membership meeting & Elections are already scheduled for Monday April 28th @ Tides Theatre in San Francisco.  So, mark your Calendars!
