AEA’s 2013 CLASSICAL THEATER AWARDS HONOR MEMBERS TINA BENKO, JONATHAN CAKE and J. SMITH-CAMERON

Today, the Actors' Equity Association Foundation announced the 2013 recipients for the St. Clair Bayfield Award and the Joe A. Callaway Award, both of which recognize members for their roles in classical theater productions staged in the New York metropolitan area.

Tina Benko will receive the St. Clair Bayfield Award for her performance as Titania in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (directed by Julie Taymor) for Theatre for a New Audience. Jonathan Cake and J. Smith-Cameron have been selected for the Joe A. Callaway Award. Cake was cited for his performance as Benedick in Much Ado About Nothing for Theatre for a New Audience, and Smith-Cameron was recognized for her performance in the title role in Juno and the Paycock for The Irish RepertoryTheatre.

The St. Clair Bayfield Award honors the best performance in a supporting role by an actor in a Shakespearean play. The Joe A. Callaway honors the best performance in a professional production of a classic play written prior to 1920.  The judges’ panel for both awards is Joe Dziemianowicz, Daily News; Adam Feldman, Time Out New York; Susan Haskins, Theater Talk; Harry Haun, Playbill; and David Rosenberg, NYTheaterScene.com.

Benko, Cake and Smith-Cameron will be presented with their awards at Equity’s Eastern regional membership meeting on Friday, January 10, 2014.

Bravo!
