Marriage Equality in NY

New York still does not allow same-sex couples to legally marry within its borders, but the New York State Legislature is poised to make marriage equality a reality. NY Governor David Paterson has long championed Marriage Equality. We are thrilled he has called the NY State Senate back to Albany next week and put the Marriage Equality bill on the agenda. We now expect to get the respectful debate and vote we've been waiting for since June.

Show your support by wearing a white knot: www.whiteknot.org. Everyone has a right to tie the knot !

What you can do:

Find your state senator's phone number Click here www.nysenate.gov and tell him or her that you expect a vote on marriage before the end of the month. We must step up now and demand equality for our families. Call your senator today Click here www.nysenate.gov

Use the talking points below or say it in your own words:

Hello, my name is ________ I live at (your address including zip code)

I am a constituent of your district and I would like you to vote YES on the Marriage Equality bill S4401.

The New York high court is set to rule on several same-sex marriage cases soon, and it is equally important that we demand equality for families from our state legislature. There are legal teams and institutions that will make the case in the courtroom, but we need to make the case with our lawmakers.

Regardless of how completely their lives are intertwined or how deeply they care for each other, individuals in same-sex relationships frequently are treated like strangers under the law - and none are afforded full equality in this country. This unequal treatment causes concrete and devastating harm. This may be the last chance to get a vote on marriage this year. It's time to vote.

Call your senator today Click here www.nysenate.gov and stay tuned for legal updates! For more information visit www.broadwayimpact.com or www.lambdalegal.org
