John P. Connolly
![]() John P. Connolly Dear Equity Sisters and Brothers, It is a great honor to serve you as Equity's new Executive Director. I promise that I will dedicate my waking hours - and my dreams as well - to your well-being and dignity as actors and stage managers in the fast-changing often chaotic, yet always wonderful world of the theater. Both the joy and despair of an Actor's life are familiar to me from my own 35-year career on stage, screen and radio. And my leadership responsibilities in our sister unions, including collective bargaining, public policy and strategic planning, will help inform our deliberations and the decisions I must make to strengthen our Union and create a better working environment for you who are committed to a career on stage. How we address the great issues looming on the near horizon will shape our future as workers and artists. It is my duty to be your chief guide, advisor and advocate in that journey. Whether it is engaging in the debate on National Healthcare (and its effect on our own P&H funds), or negotiating stronger contracts or growing the number of Equity jobs, I am proud that Equity is poised to meet every challenge we face. In 1913, brave individuals, working collectively, laid the groundwork for our future - at considerable risk to their careers - by creating our Union. They unwaveringly fought to achieve what's best for Actors. Then, and throughout our history, Equity leaders have continued to break barriers, expand union jobs, and change the very way the theater industry does business - all for the betterment of Actors. Honoring this foundation, I will build on the legacies of all those who served before me and I will endeavor to serve this wonderful Union, and each of you, with respect, diligence, empathy and fierce dedication. Thank you for the opportunity. And for your loyalty to Actors' Equity. With affection and solidarity,
John P. Connolly
